Improve Your Writing Instantly By Applying This Simple Trick

(Writing Your Way To Riches, Part I)

Good writing is the best way to get attention, attract more clients, grow your business, show people you’re great at what you do, and beat all the competition.

The problem is that most writing is beyond terrible. At best it’s bland and boring, at worst it can actively work against you and your ambitions.

Writing well is probably the closest thing to a superpower you can get. And luckily for you it doesn’t involve any strange spider bites or expensive classes to improve.

In fact, just reading this short article will put you on the path towards writing greatness.

Let’s get into it.

Public School Failed Us

In many ways actually. But the biggest two might be as follows:

  1. They didn’t help us develop the proper writing skills we need to succeed.
  2. They failed to convey just how significant and effective it can be.

Writing got lumped together with the stuff that teachers told us would be important but the moment we left school we forgot immediately, like trigonometry and the Dewey Decimal System.

The components of writing that matter to you (read: the real world) don’t revolve around adjectives, subjects, or predicates. We are concerned with words that sell. Words that push the needle forward. Words that get you what you want.

So where do you start if, like me, school failed you?

Seduce the Reader

In order to get someone to actually read your content, it needs to entice them in some way.

The easiest form of scriptural seduction is formatting–the way you lay out your content. It’s the first thing we notice when we are about to read something. Before the first sentence and even before the headline.

I like to ramble on about how TikTok has rewired our brains to prefer short form content, but it’s true.

Consider for a moment what happens if you were to pick up a newspaper. Your brain notices the massive amount of text and how densely packed it is. Immediately it goes into a panic and starts looking for a way out. “There’s no way I’m reading all of that!”

Now, compare that grueling gray gazette against this article.

Small chunks of text, no long winded sentences, and no complicated jargon. It’s much easier to consume and digest. If this article were a food, it would be labeled a probiotic.

Thankfully in our age of electronics, content real estate is unlimited. What I mean is, we don’t have to pack things together so tightly in order to fit them on a physical piece of paper.

The Takeaway

Effective writing is not just about the words you use, but also how you present them. Formatting plays a crucial role in making your content digestible and engaging.

Avoid the newspaper layout, and instead use clear headings, subheadings, and bullet points to break up large blocks of text. This helps the reader quickly scan your content and find the information they’re looking for.

Keep in mind that it’s important to strike a balance between simplicity and complexity. We aren’t targeting toddlers with our writing, as such we don’t want to talk down to our readers. Use language that is appropriate for your target audience, but avoid overly technical jargon.

By focusing on clarity, conciseness, and effective formatting, you can create writing that is both informative and enjoyable to read.

All for now. Talk soon,

Robert
